Grand Theft Auto VI has no announced multiplayer mode, and it launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only. The PlayStation Store lists it as a single-player game, and every first-party platform statement since the December 2023 reveal has named those two consoles and nothing else.
Both of those answers are less satisfying than the ones you’ll find elsewhere, and both are the actual state of what Rockstar has said. Here’s the full picture, separated into what is confirmed and what people have simply assumed.
Quick answers

Multiplayer: Rockstar has announced nothing
There is no announced online or multiplayer mode for Grand Theft Auto VI at launch. The PlayStation Store listing classes the game as single-player, and Rockstar and Take-Two have consistently described it that way — two playable protagonists, Jason and Lucia, in a single-player open-world story set across the state of Leonida.
What makes this worth stating carefully is how much isn’t covered by that. Rockstar has not said:
- whether a VI online mode is coming at all
- when it would arrive, if it does
- whether it would be bundled with the game or sold separately
- whether it would share the single-player map
Four open questions, zero official answers. Take-Two has separately been reported as confirming it will continue supporting the existing GTA Online — coverage of its comments rather than a Rockstar post, and in any case a statement about the old game, not a hint about a new one.
The one adjacent confirmation: GTA+ continues into VI’s lifecycle — digital pre-orders include a free month of it, claimable through March 31, 2027 per the PlayStation listing. What GTA+ actually does inside VI has not been detailed.
Why everyone expects “GTA Online 2” anyway
Because of Rockstar’s last two games. GTA Online launched roughly two weeks after GTA V, and the Red Dead Online beta arrived about a month after Red Dead Redemption 2. That’s a strong pattern, and it’s the entire basis for the near-universal assumption that a VI online component lands within weeks of November 19.
It is a pattern, not a statement. Nothing in Rockstar’s marketing, Take-Two’s investor materials, or either storefront listing supports dating an online release, pricing it, or describing it. If you see a launch-window online mode written up as confirmed, it isn’t — and neither is any monetization model attached to it.
Cross-save, cross-progression and crossplay are in the same bucket: not applicable to a single-player game at launch, and never addressed.
Platforms: two consoles, no asterisks
PlayStation 5 (including PS5 Pro) and Xbox Series X|S. That list comes from the November 2025 launch-date Newswire post, Take-Two’s pre-order press release, and both storefront listings. It has been identical since the reveal trailer, which already read “Coming 2025 to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.”
The PlayStation Store listing goes one step further and states the game is not playable on PS4. There is no equivalent line singling out Xbox One — that console has simply never appeared in any platform statement Rockstar or Take-Two has made. Either way, last-gen is out.
Both platforms get the same game on the same day at the same price: $79.99 standard, $99.99 Ultimate. The only edition sold in a box is Standard — and that box holds a download code, not a disc — so the Ultimate Edition is reported to be digital-only on both platforms. The free GTA+ month applies to digital pre-orders on PlayStation and Xbox alike — early coverage framing it as a PlayStation exclusive was wrong.
PC: not announced, in either direction
Rockstar has never announced a PC version, and has never announced that there won’t be one. There is no listing on Steam, Epic or the Rockstar Store.
The most concrete signal is an investor document rather than a marketing one: Take-Two’s fiscal-2027 product release table — titles expected to ship between April 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027 — lists GTA VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with no PC entry. That does not mean a PC version doesn’t exist. It does mean none is scheduled to ship before the end of March 2027.
Steam Deck, Linux, macOS and cloud streaming have had no announcement of any kind. A Nintendo Switch 2 version remains rumor: insiders have gone back and forth on it, one of them explicitly declining to say it’s coming, and Rockstar, Nintendo and Take-Two have all said nothing on the record.
PS5 features: what the storefront actually lists
The PlayStation Store listing is the only place with a published feature list, and it’s short:
| Feature | Status |
|---|---|
| PS5 Pro Enhanced | Listed (badge added when pre-orders opened) |
| DualSense haptic feedback | Listed |
| DualSense adaptive triggers | Listed |
| DualSense speaker | Listed |
| Tempest 3D AudioTech | Listed |
| Fast SSD loading | Listed |
| Remote Play | Listed |
Note the wording. These are storefront feature tags — Rockstar has published no description of how any of them are used in the game.
The PS5 Pro Enhanced badge is the one to be careful with. It is confirmed on the listing. What the enhancement consists of is not specified: no resolution target, no frame rate, no upscaler, no ray tracing statement. Rockstar has published nothing. Worth noting alongside it — the August 27, 2026 Extended Look was captured entirely on base PS5, per Rockstar’s own caption.
No equivalent enhancement badge or feature list has been published on the Xbox side.
Xbox Series S: the honest answer is nothing
There is no first-party statement about Xbox Series S at all — no resolution, no frame rate, no feature-parity note, no install size, no word on whether it differs from Series X. Xbox Play Anywhere and Smart Delivery are likewise unaddressed.
That extends to frame rate on every console. No target frame rate has been published, for any platform. The “60fps confirmed,” “60fps on PS5 Pro only” and “Series S locked to 30” claims all originate with unnamed insiders and readings of retailer listings. Treat them as rumor.
Game Pass and PlayStation Plus availability at launch: nothing announced. Rockstar has never put a mainline GTA into a subscription at launch, but that’s an absence of a statement, not a denial.
What would change this page
The gaps above close in one of three places: a Rockstar Newswire post, a Take-Two earnings call or filing, or an update to the PlayStation and Microsoft Store listings. Storefronts have already been the first mover once — the PS5 Pro Enhanced badge appeared there when pre-orders opened, not in a press release. Pre-loading begins November 12, 2026, a week before launch, which is typically when install sizes and platform feature details become visible whether or not anyone announces them.
Frequently asked questions
Does GTA 6 have multiplayer?
No multiplayer or online mode has been announced. The PlayStation Store lists Grand Theft Auto VI as a single-player game, and Rockstar has never stated that an online mode exists, when it would arrive, or what it would cost.
Is GTA Online 2 confirmed?
No. Rockstar has said nothing about a successor to GTA Online — not its existence, timing, pricing model, or whether it would share the single-player map. The widespread assumption that it arrives weeks after launch is based only on what happened with GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2.
Is GTA 6 coming to PS4 or Xbox One?
No. The game is announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, and the PlayStation Store listing states explicitly that it is not playable on PS4. Xbox One has never appeared in any platform statement.
What does PS5 Pro Enhanced mean for GTA 6?
The PlayStation Store listing carries the PS5 Pro Enhanced badge, which was added when pre-orders opened. Rockstar has not specified what the enhancement actually delivers — no resolution target, frame rate, or feature list has been published.
Does GTA 6 run at 60fps on Xbox Series S?
Unknown. Rockstar has published no frame rate target for any console, and there is no first-party statement about Xbox Series S specifics at all. Every '60fps confirmed' headline traces back to unnamed sources.
