Ace Combat 8 Multiplayer Modes & Ace Pass Explained
Ace Combat 8 confirms online PvP, co-op and cross-play for up to 8 players. What's actually confirmed about Ace Combat Online and the Ace Pass.

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve has online PvP, online co-op and cross-platform play — all three confirmed first-party by the storefront category lists. What it does not have, publicly, is a mode list: Bandai Namco has not named a single PvP mode, and most of the detail circulating about the seasonal Ace Pass comes from a fan wiki rather than from the publisher.
That gap is why this page splits everything in two. Anything marked confirmed below comes from a storefront or a publisher channel; anything marked reported comes from acecombat.wiki.gg and is unverified until Bandai Namco says otherwise.
What the storefronts confirm outright
The Steam category list is boring-looking and genuinely useful — it is publisher-controlled metadata, not press speculation. Here is what AC8’s listing carries, and what each entry actually tells you.
| Steam category | What it confirms |
|---|---|
| Single-player | The story campaign |
| Multi-player | Multiplayer ships in the box |
| PvP + Online PvP | Competitive play against other humans, online |
| Co-op + Online Co-op | Cooperative play, online — a series first |
| Cross-Platform Multiplayer | Cross-play between platforms |
| In-App Purchases | A real-money storefront exists inside the game |
Steam’s ESRB block reinforces the last row: its Interactive Elements line flags both user interaction and in-game purchases. The monetization layer is not a rumor — it is declared on the publisher’s own store page.
ACE COMBAT ONLINE: what’s new
The multiplayer suite has a proper name — ACE COMBAT ONLINE, styled in all caps — and Steam heads its description “The Largest Online Mode of the Series.” Producer Manabu Shimomoto has described it in the same terms in Xbox Wire’s June coverage.
Two things about it are genuinely new to the franchise:
- A social lobby. Before you sortie, you walk a custom avatar around an air base. Ace Combat has never had an online lobby before.
- Online co-op. Cooperative online play is a first for the Ace Combat series.
Steam’s copy adds that you sortie into online missions with pilots worldwide across a variety of modes including Co-Op and cross-platform play. Note what that sentence never does: name any of the other modes.
Player counts and platform requirements
| Platform | Confirmed player counts | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Up to 8 online players | PS Plus required for online play |
| Xbox Series X|S | Online co-op 4-8; online multiplayer 4-8 | Cross-platform multiplayer and cross-platform co-op both listed |
| PC (Steam) | Not itemized on the Steam listing | Kernel-level Easy Anti-Cheat; Denuvo Anti-Tamper also present |
The 4-8 range on Xbox is the most specific figure any storefront gives, and PlayStation’s up-to-8 wording is consistent with it. Steam publishes no player-count field, so treat 8 as the ceiling.
PC players should factor in the anti-cheat: Steam’s store page discloses kernel-level Easy Anti-Cheat alongside Denuvo Anti-Tamper, which carries a five-machine daily activation limit.
Cross-play yes, cross-save no
Cross-play is confirmed three different ways: the Steam Cross-Platform Multiplayer category, Xbox’s cross-platform multiplayer and cross-platform co-op capability tags, and Steam’s own ACE COMBAT ONLINE description.
Cross-save and cross-progression are a different question, and the answer is that nobody has confirmed them. No storefront and no publisher page claims cross-progression. Steam Cloud and Xbox cloud saves both appear in the capability lists, but those are within-platform cloud saves — they let you move between your own PCs or your own Xboxes, not between a PS5 and a PC. Do not assume your Ace Pass progress follows you across ecosystems until Bandai Namco says it does.
PvP mode names: not announced
This is the biggest hole in AC8’s multiplayer coverage, and it is worth being blunt about it. No first-party source has named a single PvP mode. Only “Co-Op” appears by name in official copy.
If you have seen a list of AC8 modes with names like Team Deathmatch attached, that list is carried over from Ace Combat 7 by inference. It may well prove accurate — series conventions usually hold — but nobody has confirmed it applies to Ace Combat 8.
The Ace Pass: confirmed vs. reported
This is where care matters most, because the Deluxe Edition sells you a voucher for a system the publisher has barely described.
| Claim | Status |
|---|---|
| A PREMIUM ACE PASS PLUS exists and is a Deluxe Edition item | Confirmed — Steam, Xbox and Bandai Namco Store listings |
| The voucher is redeemed for the pass in the in-game shop, and needs the base game | Confirmed — Xbox voucher product page |
| The PLUS tier grants 30 unlocked premium Ace Pass levels | Confirmed — Bandai Namco Europe’s own shop page |
| Each season has an Ace Pass with a free track and a paid premium track | Reported — acecombat.wiki.gg only |
| The Deluxe voucher can be banked and redeemed in a future season instead of the current one | Reported — acecombat.wiki.gg only |
| The ADFX-02 MORGAN -PIXY- is a Season 1 exclusive reward, alongside Belkan Air Force, Galm Team and 6th Air Division emblems and avatar items | Reported — acecombat.wiki.gg only |
The 30-level figure is worth singling out: it appears in the wiki write-up and independently in Bandai Namco Europe’s own Deluxe description, which is what pushes it into the confirmed column. The two-track structure around it stayed put.
Can you buy the Ace Pass separately?
Unknown, and the storefront evidence is genuinely ambiguous. The Xbox add-on page for the PREMIUM ACE PASS PLUS Voucher shows no standalone price and no purchase button — its only listed availability is as a component of the $89.99 Deluxe Edition Pre-Order.
That is not the same as confirming Deluxe exclusivity, and the page’s note that the content requires a game sold separately refers to the base game, not to the voucher. Two claims are therefore both unsupported right now: that the pass is Deluxe-exclusive, and that anyone can simply buy it. The standalone price of PREMIUM ACE PASS and PREMIUM ACE PASS PLUS is unannounced.
Still unanswered
| Open question | Status as of late August 2026 |
|---|---|
| Individual PvP mode names | Never published |
| Ace Pass season length | Unknown |
| Number of planned seasons | Unknown |
| Whether Ace Pass rewards are time-limited | Unknown |
| Standalone Ace Pass pricing | Unknown |
| Cross-save / cross-progression | Never claimed by any storefront |
| Post-launch DLC or season pass beyond the Ace Pass | Nothing announced; Steam lists no DLC entries |
| Whether the preorder F-14A is usable in multiplayer | Reported in secondary coverage; first-party copy says only “Playable Aircraft: F-14A” |
Expect several of these to fill in around launch — October 2, 2026, with Deluxe Edition early access three days earlier. Bandai Namco has not said when the in-game shop itself opens. We’ll update this page as each one lands.

Yes, and online co-op is a first for the series. Xbox lists online co-op at 4-8 players; the PlayStation Store lists up to 8 online players with PS Plus.
