Halloween: The Game Release Date & Advance Access
Halloween: The Game launches September 8, 2026 at 16:00 UTC. Digital Deluxe plays four days early from September 4 — and what Advance Access really means.

Halloween: The Game releases Tuesday, September 8, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Digital Deluxe buyers get in four days earlier, on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 9 AM PT — IllFonic’s own wording, matched by a 16:00 UTC timestamp on two separate console storefronts.
That is the easy part. The hard part is that this game uses the phrase “Advance Access” to mean two entirely different things, and the official site uses a third word for one of them. If you are choosing an edition, that distinction matters more than the dates.
The dates that matter
| What | Date | Published clock time |
|---|---|---|
| Digital Deluxe head start | Friday, September 4, 2026 | 9 AM PT / 16:00 UTC |
| Full digital release (all editions) | Tuesday, September 8, 2026 | 16:00 UTC |
| Physical Standard & Collector’s | Tuesday, October 6, 2026 | None published |
Digital launch covers all four storefronts named on the official site. There is no Nintendo version and no Microsoft Store (Xbox on PC) listing.
Unlock time: 16:00 UTC, per two first-party storefronts
The PlayStation Store US listing gives the standard edition a release of 9/8/2026 at 04:00 PM UTC, and Xbox’s store data carries the same moment for the base-game SKU as 2026-09-08T16:00:00Z. Two first-party storefronts landing on an identical clock time is about as solid as pre-launch timing gets.
The Deluxe head start is timestamped the same way: PS Store US lists 9/4/2026 at 04:00 PM UTC, Xbox’s data carries 2026-09-04T16:00:00Z, and the Xbox Deluxe listing spells it out in prose — “Advance Access on September 4, 2026 at 9:00 AM Pacific Time.” That is 09:00 Pacific, matching the official site’s “9 AM PT” exactly.
Here is what 16:00 UTC works out to. These are arithmetic conversions of one published figure, not an announced regional unlock map:
| Region | Local time |
|---|---|
| US Pacific (PDT) | 9:00 AM, same day |
| US Eastern (EDT) | 12:00 PM, same day |
| UK (BST) | 5:00 PM, same day |
| Central Europe (CEST) | 6:00 PM, same day |
| Japan (JST) | 1:00 AM, next day |
| New Zealand (NZST) | 4:00 AM, next day |
Neither Steam nor Epic publishes a clock time. Whether the PC versions unlock globally at 16:00 UTC alongside the consoles, or roll out regionally, has not been stated by anyone — treat 16:00 UTC as the console figure until IllFonic says otherwise.
One regional quirk: the PlayStation Store UK concept page shows both editions at 8/9/2026 and does not surface the separate September 4 Deluxe date at concept level. The US Deluxe product page is where that September 4 timestamp appears.
The terminology trap: three things, one word
This is the single easiest thing to get wrong when buying, so read it carefully.
| Phrase | Where it appears | What it actually is |
|---|---|---|
| “Early Access” | Official site (halloweengame.com) | The four-day playable head start, Digital Deluxe only |
| “Advance Access” | Steam and Xbox store listings | The same four-day head start, different label |
| “(Advance Access)” | Physical Standard & Collector’s contents | An early cosmetic unlock — no playable head start at all |
The first two are the same thing wearing different names. Steam’s offer text reads “Pre-Purchase this edition and play the game starting 4 days ahead of full release,” and the US store page labels the window “Advance Access / Starts Sep 4.” The official site calls that identical window “Early Access.” Nothing separates them but vocabulary.
The third is the trap. On the physical editions, IllFonic appends “(Advance Access)” to individual cosmetic items — the Michael Myers Clown Skin, the Samhain Skin (Collector’s Edition only), the civilian cosmetics. In that context the label means those skins unlock early inside the game rather than being physical-exclusive. It says nothing about when you can play. A physical buyer gets zero head start.
Physical: October 6, and PS5 / Xbox Series X only
The Physical Standard Edition ($39.99 MSRP) and Physical Collector’s Edition ($149.99 MSRP) both arrive October 6, 2026 — four weeks after the digital launch. Both are PS5 and Xbox Series X only; there is no physical PC release.
So a physical buyer waits a month longer than a standard digital buyer and 32 days longer than a Deluxe buyer, and the “(Advance Access)” cosmetics in the box are an unlock-timing perk, not compensation. Physical pre-orders opened July 7, 2026, though the official page says only that they are available “through select retailers” and names none.
Two things remain unstated: how long the physical “(Advance Access)” cosmetic window lasts, and whether physical editions include the Phantom Michael Myers pre-order skin. The physical page doesn’t list it, and the skin is described as a Digital Pre-Order Exclusive — but no sentence says so outright.
Steam’s date is not a discrepancy
If you have seen “8 Sep, 2026” in one place and “Sep 8, 2026” in another: nothing shifted. Steam’s appdetails API returns "8 Sep, 2026" with no locale parameters, while the US-locale store page renders “Release Date: Sep 8, 2026.” Same date, different formatting.
Two genuinely wrong dates are circulating. One outlet’s PAX East hands-on refers to an October 8, 2026 launch; aggregated coverage of the Australian classification story produced a September 9, 2026. Every first-party source says September 8 digital, October 6 physical.
The date has never moved. The game was announced August 20, 2025 at the Future Games Show during Gamescom with a bare “2026” window, and dated one month later at PlayStation’s State of Play on September 24, 2025 alongside the first gameplay. No delay has ever been announced.
Preload and reviews: nothing announced
No preload date, time or download size has been published on any platform as of August 25, 2026. PlayStation’s listings note that pre-orders “feature auto-download capability on PS5 systems,” but that is standard platform behavior, not a dated preload announcement.
No review embargo has been published or reported either. One practical consequence: because the Deluxe unlocks four days early, player impressions and clips will be public from September 4 regardless of when reviews are permitted to go live. If you are on the fence, that is your real preview window.
Australia and New Zealand
Two territories have a different answer entirely. In early August 2026 the Australian Classification Board refused the game classification, which initially pulled both the physical and digital versions from Australia and New Zealand — IllFonic explained that the ACB rating used for physical goods took precedence over the IARC rating used for digital.
On August 14–15 that partly reversed: New Zealand gets a digital release on September 8, with no physical edition. Australia remains unavailable in both formats, no relief has been announced, and whether IllFonic will resubmit an edited build is unknown.
Still to be confirmed
The open items between now and September 4 are the preload window, the review embargo, and whether Steam and Epic share the consoles’ 16:00 UTC moment. We’ll update this page as each lands.
For which edition earns its price, see our editions and pre-order bonuses guide. PC players should check the system requirements breakdown — the recommended tier is not what you’d assume. Buying to play solo? Read what we actually know about bots and offline play first. And if you are in Australia or New Zealand, the classification situation affects whether you can buy it at all.
Frequently asked questions
When does Halloween: The Game come out?
The full digital release is Tuesday, September 8, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam and the Epic Games Store. Physical editions follow on October 6, 2026.
What time does Halloween: The Game unlock?
The PlayStation Store and Xbox store data both carry a 16:00 UTC timestamp for September 8 — that's 9:00 AM Pacific, 12:00 PM Eastern, 5:00 PM UK. Neither Steam nor Epic has published a clock time.
How do I get the four-day early access?
Only the Digital Deluxe Edition ($59.99) includes it. It begins Friday, September 4, 2026 at 9 AM PT. Standard-edition pre-orders do not include the head start, and neither do the physical editions.
Do physical editions get early access too?
No. Physical editions release October 6, 2026 — four weeks after digital — and include no playable head start. The '(Advance Access)' label on their cosmetics means those skins unlock early in-game, which is a completely different thing.
Is there a preload for Halloween: The Game?
Not announced. As of August 25, 2026 no storefront has published a preload date, time or download size. PlayStation notes that pre-orders 'feature auto-download capability on PS5 systems,' which is standard platform behavior rather than a dated preload.
